TREK B September 2014

Our party of seven took the six day trek with starting from Imlil including Lake Ifni and Toubkal Summit (Trek B). Ahmed, the leader, welcomed us and was very attentive and introduced us to our guide Hussaine who was excellent throughout the trip, set a nice pace and was keen to tell us about local Berber custom and points of interest. The muleteers and chef were fantastic throughout the Trek
And it was particularly nice to know that this was a local company feeding much needed money into the local community

Day1 was relatively easy and followed a pleasant overnight stay in Riad Omar in Imlil ending near Tachedirt.
Day 2 was strenuous with ascent to Likemet pass at 3550 metres but with spectacular views including Toukbal and camp overnight by the river at beautiful Likemet.
Day 3 entailed a long but not particularly arduous walk with spectacular views ( 24 km) arriving eventually at Amsouzarte and stay overnight at Guesthouse (shower facility and bedding could be improved easily) Day 4 relatively short day arriving at Lake Ifni where we cooled of with a refreshing swim, good preparation for what was to follow on day 5.
Day 5 Lake Ifni to Tizi n’Ounoums pass 3600metres this route gave spectacular views although involving steep ascents in places (no gain without pain) descending to Toubkal refuge.
Day 6 6.30am start for ascent to Toukbal relatively steep and involving a little scrambling in parts, nice pace set by Hussain with usual encouragement and his speciality nut mix arriving at top 4168 metres @9.10 am in very high winds felt like 70 mph!
Descent a little slippy in parts and taking similar time to ascent back to refuge for a drink and snack and then 2 hour walk on to the shrine at Sidi Chamarouch for Lunch and further 2 hours back to Aroumd for showers, supper and bed !
We returned to `Marrakech via Imlil next day for a 3 day social programme arranged by Ahmed including trip to coastal town and sampling the local fish, walks around the the Souks and Medina. Ahmed was always there when needed to give advice and make arrangements every step of the way.
